FIA GT1 Sachsenring

The fifth round of the FIA GT1 World Championship took place on the Sachsenring in the eastern part of

Germany. 45.000 spectators found their way to the mini-Nordschleife and enjoyed a packed programme

featuring the always exciting GT1 races as well as the ADAC GT Masters, ATS Formel 3 Cup, ADAC Procar,

Formel Masters and the Mini Challenge.

FIA GT1

Frédéric Makowiecki en Maxime Martin claimed an impressive victory during the qualifying race on Saturday.

The French-Belgian combination started the race from the 14th place on the grid. Pole sitters Nicky

Pastorelli and Dominik Schwager had to settle for a seventh place. Clivio Piccione and Stef Dusseldorp

finished second. Especially after the mandatory pit stop Dusseldorp closed in on the Ford of Martin but in

the end the Belgian driver managed to create a seven seconds gap. Aston Martin scored a double podium

with the third place of Stefan Mücke and Darren Turner. Due to a spin of Nicky Catsburg during the 5th lap

of the race, his as well as Mike Hezemans race was sadly over.

The second race on Sunday became a prey for Hexis AMR drivers Andrea Piccini and Christian Hohenadel.

The Italian-German combination finished two seconds in front of the All Inkl. Com Lamborghini of Nicky

Pastorelli and Dominik Schwager. Young Driver AMR scored their second consecutive podium of the

weekend with a third place scored by Darren Turner and Stefan Mücke. Frédéric Makowiecki started the

race from pole, Stef Dusseldorp started besides him from the second place on the grid. Both drivers

touched in the very first corner, resulting for Dusseldorp in an unplanned kitty litter experience. Stefan

Mücke took the opportunity to take the lead in front of the Aston Martin of Christian Hohenadel. Once

again the very first seconds of the race proved to be chaotic. Tomas Enge touched Karl Wendlinger’s

Lamborghini who spun. Team mate Max Nilsson couldn’t avoid the spinning Lambo and slammed into the

Italian cat. Due to the chaos the safety car had to be deployed . In lap 5 the lights went green again,

both Mücke and Hohenadel pulled away. Maxime Martin had to retire due to a flat tire and damaged

suspension. Marc Basseng suffered from a problem with one of the rear tires just seconds after the

mandatory pitsstop and had to retire. Team mate Nicky Pastorelli managed to pass Stefan Mücke and took

second place. Andrea Piccini finally won the championship race in front of Nicky Pastorelli and Darren Turner.

ADAC GT Masters

Luca Ludwig and Christopher Mies claimed a maiden victory during the first race on Saturday. The Abt Audi

combination drove an impressive race. They finished one second ahead of their Abt team mates Christer

Jöns and Jens Klingmann. Sebastian Asch and Michael Ammermüller finished third in their Porsche 911 GT3-

R. Robert Renauer crashed heavily with his Mercedes SLS AMG just seconds after the start, being hit by the

Mercedes of Christiaan Frankenhout. Philip Geipel was also hit by the Mercedes of Renauer what resulted in

an early retirement for both drivers. Luckily Renauer was unhurt.

During the second race on Sunday another Abt Audi was very succesfull. Christopher Haase and Andreas

Simonsen finished first in front of the Audi R8 driven by Porsche Supercup Champion Rene Rast and Stefan

Landmann. Christopher Mies and Luca Ludwig managed to claim the second consecutive podium of the

weekend by finishing third. Minutes before the second race a shower treated spectators and drivers

changing the track in a very slippery roller coaster. Initially the Team Engstler BMW made the best tire

choice starting the race on full wets. Alex Margaritis managed to create an impressive 35 seconds gap.

After the mandatory pit stop however team mate Dino Lunardi had to retire due to technical problems.

Christopher Haase and Andreas Simonsen took the overall lead and crossed the finish line first.

Besides FIA GT1 and ADAC Masters the Sachsenring also hosted the ATS Formel 3 Cup, Formel Masters,

ADAC Procar as well as the Mini Challenge.
