Blancpain Endurance Series Silverstone

The final race of the 2011 Blancpain Endurance Series resulted in a victory for the Marc VFS

BMW Z4. Bas Leinders, Maxime Martin and Markus Paltalla crossed the finish line first after a

three hour race at Silverstone. Second place was secured by the WRT Audi R8 of Bert Longin,

Stephane Ortelli and Filipe Albuquerque. Giacomo Petrobelli, Carlos Iacomelli and Filip

Salaquarda finished third.

Freshly crowned GT Masters champion Dino Lunardi drove the nr. 41 BMW Alpina B6 GT3 to the pole

position on the grid. Team mate Niki Mayr-Melnhof drove the first stint on Sunday and dominated the first

laps of the race. Initially, second place was claimed by the nr. 50 AF Corse Ferrari of Marco Cioci, but Bas

Leinders worked his way quickly through the field in the Marc VDS BMW Z4, snatching second place. Phil

Quaife drove an impressive race in the brand new McLaren MP4-12C and claimed third place buy

overtaking Cioci. Lunardi created a big solid gap and behind him it was escecially the Ferrari 458 driven by

Frank Kechele that claimed fourth and a little later third place. Kechele closed in on the BMW of Leinders

but the Belgian ex F1 driver and team manager of the Marc VDS team responded quickly buy setting some

fast lap times. Leinders was that fast that he closed in on Mayr-Melnhof in the leading BMW. Shortly before

the pit window opened Leinders claimed the lead. Mayr-Melnhof´s mandatory stop took far too long which

resulted in a fouth place for Dylan Derdaele. Paltalla switched seats with Leinders and the Finnish driver

remained in the leading having a 10 second gap in front of the nr. 29 Vita4One Ferrari 458 of Carlos

Iaconelli. Derdaele dropped back in the order and switched seats with pole sitter Dino Lunardi. The

Frenchman claimed the fastest lap time during the opening laps of his stint. Paltalla stopped and handed

the steering wheel to Maxime Martin. Without any signicant loss Martin entered the track leading the final

laps of the race. Just twelve minutes before the checkered flag mother nature decided to do her thing,

resulting in a little rain above Silverstone. Maxime Martin handled the conditions troublefree and claimed

victory. Stephane Ortelli had a moment but despite this he claimed second place in the final standings.

Garage Ferrari 430 of Lionel Comole, Chris Dymond and Robert Hissom took victory in the GT3
