Race Festival Spa |
Traditionally Race-Rally.be is host for the annual Race Festival at Spa-Francorchamps. The 2011 edition saw |
participation from the Dutch Supercar Challenge, Formula Renault 2.0 Alps, the British GT Cup, Lotus Cup |
Europe & UK as well as the F3 Classic & F. Renault Classic. |

Dutch Supercar Challenge |

Dodge Viper Competititon driver Diederik Sijthoff scored the very best results during the two races held on |
a very sunny and warm Spa-Francorchamps. Sijthoff claimed pole position, took victory during both the |
races and took the championship lead from Roger Grouwels. Just a few laps after the start it went wrong |
for some participants resulting in a safetycar period. For a short while Rick Abresch took the lead but after |
the mandatory pit stop Sijthoff took the lead and claimed victory. Peter Versluis scored a great second |
place in his brand new Ferrari 458 Italia. This car was entered for the very first time in a DSC race and |
Versluis managed to claim a splendid second spot on the podium with the very first appearance of this car |
in the Dutch Supercar Challenge. |
On Sunday Sijthoff started the race from pole and dominated the race. Peter Versluis followed second. |
Both Roger Grouwels and Rick Abresch fought a strong battle with their epic sounding Corvette’s for third |
place, as Cor Euser dropped back. The Corvette battle ended as Grouwels managed to overtake Abresch |
during the 7th lap of the race. Sixteen year old Beitske Visser, without any doubt, the sensation of the |
2011 season worked initially her way up from 5th to a second place. After the mandatory pits stop it was |
Roger Grouwels who worked his way past Beitske Visser and close to gap with leader Diederik Sijthoff but |
in the end it was the ETEC-driver who scored his second consecutive win of the weekend in front of Roger |
Grouwels and Beitske Visser who finished third. |

The Formula Renault 2.0 Alps is an international challenge for Formula Renault 2.0 drivers. During the first |
race on Saturday it was Epic Racing driver Alex Riberas who claimed victory before Yann Zimmer (ARTA |
Engineering) and Edolo Ghirelli (One Racing). On Sunday Alex Riberas was again the man to beat scoring his |
second win of the weekend. Timmy Hansen (Interwetten.com Junior Team) finished second in front of |
ARTA Engineering driver Yann Zimmer. Javier Tarancon’s fourth place during the second race was enough |
to give him the 2011 title. |
GT Cup |
Thirteen cars entered the First 40 minute race on Saturday giving victory to Michael Saunders in his TVR. |

score a third place in his Porsche 996 GT3. The second 40 minute race on Sunday saw Andy Ruhan claiming |
victory in his Porsche 997 GT3. Simon Blanckley finished second but had no answer to the dominating |
performance of Ruhan with a gap of nearly 32 seconds. Michael Symons scored a third place in a BMW GTR |
E46. |
