Superleague Formula (Zolder)

Zolder hosted the 2nd round of the popular Superleague Formula during the weekend of

Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th July. Besides the very spectacular and powerful Panoz single

seaters Zolder hosted races of the HTC Dutch GT4 and FIA GT4 European Cup, Dutch Supercar

Challenge, Formula Ford and Suzuki Swift Cup.

Craig Dolby claimed victory for England during the first race on Sunday. The Briton had a better pit

strategy than his opponent Chris van der Drift who took the lead right from the start of the race. Neel

Jani scored for Belgium a second spot on the winners podium, Frederic Vervisch managed to take the final

spot on the podium for Luxemburg. Chris van der Drift could start from pole due to an action from Dolby

during qualifying. Tristan Gommendy crashed his car during the early stages of the races resulting in a short

safety car period. Dolby´s betterpit strategy gave him the lead during the second part of the race. Van der

Drift made a bad stop, costing him the lead and a second place to Neel Jani. Frederic Vervisch managed

during the final stages of the race to take v.d. Drift´s third place.

During the second race it was John Martin who took victory. The Australian took advantage from starting

first due to a reversed grid and the retirement of Andy Soucek who was in the lead for a long time. Max

Wissel scored a second place for South Korea in front of Mikhail Aleshin who drove Russia to the third and

final spot on the podium. Andy Soucek started from pole and immediately took the lead. Until the

mandatory pit stop everything went well for the Spaniard. By the time he would leave his team his engine

stalled and didn´t find a way to start again. Soucek was heavily disappointed and had to get out of his

car. John Martin however made a strong performance winning a nice duel with Duncan Tappy on the

track, as well as a better pit stop than Aleshin what gave him the lead and victory.

The Superfinal on Sunday afternoon would become a true thriller. Belgian driver Frederic Vervisch scored for

Luxemburg victory after a thrilling race against John Martin and Neel Jani. Vervisch drove away from his

opponents after the start. Shortly before the finish it started to rain and the gap Vervisch created

disappeared in a fraction of time. Both John Martin and Neel Jani got really close on Vervisch´ gearbox.

Wheel to wheel both Vervisch and Martin drove towards the checker flag but in the end it was Vervisch

who claimed victory for Luxemburg, just a fraction before Martin winning € 100.000,00.

HTC Dutch GT4

Ricardo v.d. Ende won the 1st race of the HTC Dutch GT4 Championship in his BMW M3. Van der Ende

immediately took the lead in front of Phil Bastiaans and Cor Euser. Within a few laps v.d. Ende created a gap

of four seconds but both Stefano D´Aste and Cor Euser closed in on the leader pretty quickly. D´Aste

overtook v.d. Ende in the penultimate lap but as he drove in the GT4 European Cup v.d. Ende scored

victory. Cor Euser finished second in his Lotus Evora, Phil Bastiaans claimed third spot in his Porsche 997

GT4.

Jeroen Bleekemolen won an exciting second race. Bleekemolen took the lead, followed very closely by

Stefano D´Aste and Duncan Huisman. Both Bleekemolen en D´Aste created a big gap, Duncan Huisman

couldn't follow the leaders and dropped back, but remained third. Bleekemolen managed to hold off

D´Aste and claimed a deserved victory. Duncan Huisman finished second in his BMW M3, in front of Dick

Freebird in a Lotus Evora.

The 3rd and longer 50 minute race was won by Jeroen Bleekemolen and Peter Kolk. The Corvette drivers

finished some 21 seconds in front of Cor Euser and Dick Freebird in their Lotus Evora. Wim van Genderen

and Luc Braams grapped third place in a Chevrolet Camaro.

GT4 European Cup

In the combined races of the GT4 European Cup and HTC Dutch GT4 it was Stefano D´Aste who claimed

victory in race nr.1 driving a Lotus Evora. Anthony Scragg finished second (Aston Martin Vantage), Florian

Renauer scored a third place in his Ginetta G50. During the second race it was once again Stefano D´Aste

who was the man to beat. Gianni Giudici completed the podium (2nd) in a Lotus 2 Eleven in front of

Michael Dräbing in a Ginetta G50. The third race became a prey for James Appleby and Anthony Scragg in

their Aston Martin Vantage. Florian Renauer scored a second place and a second podium (Ginetta G50) in

front of Stefano D´Aste in his Lotus Evora.

Formula Ford

Scott Malvern scored victory during the first race, but less than a second before Jeroen Slaghekke crossed

the finish line. Nick McBride from Australia managed to score a third place.  Malvern was untouchable that

weekend and scored a second victory during the second race. The Briton finished 1,022 second in front of

Jeroen Slaghekke and Nick McBride.
